Language Arts:
High Frequency Words: little, very, us, been, our, but, your, from, put
Skills we are currently covering:
- Reading and spelling high frequency words
- Relating stories to our own life experiences.
- Understanding the central lesson of stories.
- Inferring characters' feelings.
- Acquiring new vocabulary from books and using it in discussion.
- Listening respectfully to others when they share statements.
- Remembering important details about characters.
- Understanding that fantasy stories cannot happen in real life.
- Recalling key details about the setting of a story.
- Finding part of a word we know in a new word.
- Using parts of words to read and write new words.
- Using the first part and last part of a word to read it.
- Giving reasons to support thinking about a text.
- Using academic vocabulary to talk about nonfiction genres (ex. informational text)
- Identifying letters that are consonants.
- Identifying that a sentence is a group of words that makes sense.
- Identifying some words have parts or patterns that are the same.
Math
Go Math! lessons we are covering during these 2 weeks:
- Equal and Not Equal, Facts Practice to 20, Chapter 5 Pretest, Chapter 5 Reteach/Review, Chapter 5 Math Test, Count by 1s to 120, Count by 10s to 120, Understand Tens and Ones, Makes Tens and Ones
Skills to be practicing that will be assessed throughout 2nd Quarter & reported on the 2Q Report Card:
- Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems
- Add and subtract using a variety of strategies
- Add and subtract within 20
- Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation
- Addition Fact Fluency within 10: ( +0, +1, Doubles Facts, and Sums of 10)
- Subtraction Fact Fluency within 10: ( -0, -1, Doubles Facts and Differences from 10)
Reminders
- Be sure to frequently review the orange High Frequency word cards with your child. They will need to know how to read all of these words by sight by the end of the quarter.
- As the weather is getting cooler please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing. We go outside for recess everyday unless the temperature is under 32 degrees or it is raining/snowing.
- If your child cannot tie their shoes please practice this skill with them. Looking for a great resource? Go to youtube.com and search “How to tie a shoe”. You will find lots of helpful videos.
